LiDAR surveys are carried out using the Piper Navajo Chieftain aircraft and an Optech ALTM 3033 LiDAR instrument. The device collects 33,000 laser observations per second and in standard operating mode it collects first pulse, last pulse and intensity data. From an operating altitude of 1000 metres the resulting height data has an absolute RMS accuracy of better than plus or minus 15cms. Relative accuracy is usually considerably higher. These accuracies are dependent on the availability a suitable GPS base station (see here for details). |

Calculations for survey parameters are available here. LiDAR data can be provided as point clouds or in grid form on a wide range of projections and coordinate systems according to user requirements. Supported media include CD, DAT, DLT and DVD. A wide range of data formats are supported. The system will soon be extended with a waveform digitising capability.
